šøš Disney, NBC, and Amazon are each finalizing separate deals with the NBA, collectively worth $76B over 11 years.
Disneyās deal, at $2.5B annually, likely keeps the NBA Finals on ABC and expands streaming on ESPNās new service in 2025.
NBCās $2.5B bid brings NBA games back to NBC and adds streaming on Peacock.
Amazon, with a $1.8B annual investment, secures regular-season and playoff games, expanding its live sports lineup.
Warner Bros. Discovery is reportedly negotiating a potential fourth, smaller package to maintain its NBA presence on TNT.
These pending deals underscore the growing dominance of streaming platforms and the increasing costs of securing live sports content. The financial stakes highlight how crucial sports are for attracting viewers, pushing traditional networks and new players to adapt rapidly.
š¬š Kevin Costner's $100M Western epic, āHorizon: An American Saga ā Chapter One,ā is facing a tough road ahead. Early tracking is suggesting a lackluster $12M domestic opening, which might be more of a āyee-nawā than a āyee-haw.ā Despite Warner Bros.' efforts to rally Costner's āYellowstoneā fanbase, the film faces stiff competition from Paramount's āA Quiet Place: Day One,ā which is projected to open with a whopping $40M on the same weekend. Despite the gloomy outlook, Costner's keeping his spurs on and his head held high, banking on his middle-America followers to prove the doubters wrong. The next few weeks will be critical as these two films go head-to-head at the box office, with Costner's Western grit on the line.
šØš¤ Big Tech is rallying behind AIās right to create. Amazon, Apple, Meta, and their tech titan pals have joined forces under the Chamber of Progress banner to launch the "Generate and Create" campaign to champion AIās role in art. They argue that AI tools make it easier for creators to produce art, leaning on the well-established principle of fair use. This campaign is aimed at lawmakers, artists, and the public to highlight how AI can democratize creativity. But with several legal battles surrounding AI brewing, the debate over AIās creative license is just heating up.
