👋 Good morning. Nathan Fielder’s Elizabeth Holmes doc had a very good weekend (more on that in a bit). But first, a nod to humbler beginnings. The most-watched video on Fielder’s own YouTube channel is ‘Thin Watermelon,’ a 31-second clip from 2010 in which he holds up an impossibly thin slice of watermelon, lets it flap in the breeze, and stares directly into your soul. No setup, no punchline, no explanation. 5.2M views. Fielder has said people still come up to him to say it’s the best thing he’s ever done. As of this weekend, those people may be reconsidering.
Welcome back to The Dailies. Hope the weekend treated you right. The box office rundown is below, along with everything else you need to know before your first meeting. Coffee up, let’s get into it. 👇
BOX OFFICE BREAKDOWN
🎟️ ‘Street Fighter’ wins this round…

Cody Rhodes as Guile in the 'Street Fighter' movie. (Paramount Pictures)
| WEEKEND TOTAL $103.8M| VS. 2025 +41.9%| VS. LAST WKND +19.7% | |
Street Fighter NEW Paramount · $31M domestic weekend · Global total: $51.1M · Budget: $82M · 🍅: 41% Paramount's first movie out the door since the Warner Bros. deal closed did what it needed to do, which was hit tracking and not embarrass anyone. The crowd was 69% male and mostly 35-to-44-year-olds who grew up on the game, and they gave it a B-. Worth noting Paramount is only distributing for a fee, so the $82M is Legendary and Capcom’s to worry about.
You Can See Everything NEW A24 · $15M domestic weekend · Budget: $7M · 🍅: 99% Yes, a three-hour Elizabeth Holmes documentary was the No. 2 movie in America, from just 855 theaters. Full story below. 👇
Other Mommy WK 2 Universal/Blumhouse · $8.4M domestic weekend (-70%) · Domestic total: $44.9M · Global total: $78.8M · Budget: $18M A 70% drop is what a D+ CinemaScore looks like in practice. Still, at this price Blumhouse cleared its budget on opening weekend and everything since is gravy.
Whalefall NEW 20th Century Studios · $8M domestic weekend · Global total: $17.5M · Budget: $60M · 🍅: 70% Came in well under tracking ($11-12M) and lost the young-male crowd to 'Street Fighter.' Reviews were fine and the B CinemaScore is fine, but fine doesn't earn back a $60M budget.
Sense and Sensibility NEW Focus Features · $7.3M domestic weekend · Global total: $17M · Budget: $25M · 🍅: 76% Small opening, great reaction. Daisy Edgar-Jones doing Jane Austen came in a little under the $8M tracking had it at, but with an A- CinemaScore (best of the weekend) and a $25M budget, Focus will take it. Nobody expects a $43M run like Ang Lee's 1995 version. A long, polite one will do.
Verity WK 3 Amazon MGM · $6.2M domestic weekend (-46%) · Domestic total: $66.1M · Global total: $145.3M · Budget: $40M
Resident Evil WK 5 Sony · $5.5M domestic weekend (-34%) · Domestic total: $148.5M · Global total: $361M · Budget: $75M
Heart of the Beast WK 4 Paramount · $4.8M domestic weekend (-32%) · Domestic total: $58.3M · Global total: $148M · Budget: $82M
Jailer 2 NEW Shloka Entertainments · $3.2M domestic weekend · Budget: $30M · 🍅: 91% A Tamil-language action sequel starring Rajinikanth, one of India's biggest stars for decades. It cracked the U.S. top 10 from just 401 theaters.
Forgotten Island WK 4 Universal · $2.3M domestic weekend (-52%) · Domestic total: $35.1M · Global total: $58M · Budget: $80M
The bigger picture: three weeks, three big misses. 'Digger,' 'The Social Reckoning,' and now 'Whalefall,' which got outgrossed by a $7M Elizabeth Holmes documentary. It doesn't seem like an audience problem, though. 2026 crossed $8B domestic on Oct. 9 and is running about 19% ahead of 2025, so people are clearly still going to the movies. They're just skipping the expensive originals that studios are making.
Specialty corner: Warner Bros.' new label Clockwork put out its first movie, a one-week run of Ken Russell's 'The Devils,' finally uncut. Warner Bros. and the British censors forced heavy cuts in 1971, including two full scenes, and the studio refused to release the complete version for the next five decades. It did $1.64M from 350 screens despite an NC-17 rating, and most of its top theaters were showing it on 35mm.
Next weekend: DC's R-rated 'Clayface' (a body-horror villain movie that needs zero Batman homework, with good early buzz after 'Supergirl' bombed), Taika Waititi's 'Klara and the Sun' (bad reviews), and a wider expansion for 'You Can See Everything.'

🍿 The Elizabeth Holmes doc is a hit…

Elizabeth Holmes in ‘You Can See Everything’ (A24)
Theranos finally delivered a result. Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim's 'You Can See Everything' follows Elizabeth Holmes, the disgraced Theranos founder, in the weeks before she started an 11-year prison sentence for fraud. The doc runs three hours, nobody knew it existed until last month, and it just opened to $15M from only 855 theaters, roughly double what tracking had it at.
Here’s how it did, with real numbers (unlike the blood tests):
Best opening for any movie in under 1,000 theaters since 'Borat.' It averaged $17.5K per theater and sold out more than 2,000 showings.
Second-biggest documentary opening ever, if you don't count concert films. Only 'Fahrenheit 9/11' ($23.9M in 2004) did better.
It cost less than $10M to make and market, combined.
The crowd was 70% under 25, and 91% said they'd definitely recommend it, which is Marvel-movie territory.
It's the highest-rated movie on Letterboxd. Not the highest-rated doc, the highest-rated anything, at 4.8 out of 5. It also has a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, which somehow feels like the less impressive stat.
The marketing was mostly not marketing. Fielder moved in with Holmes for the 34 days before she reported to prison in 2023, A24 let the directors shoot in secret for four years with no deadline (the studio said it could be scrapped if nothing came of it), and the public didn't learn the movie existed until it world-premiered as a surprise at Telluride last month. A teaser dropped that night, a trailer followed (now A24's second-most-watched ever, after 'Backrooms'), and that was about it. No sports ad buys, no big campaign. People talked about it online enough that A24 didn’t have to.
Looking ahead… it goes wider next weekend, and there's already talk of the first documentary ever nominated for Best Picture.

A probiotic only works if it arrives...
Quick question: where do you think your probiotic goes after you swallow it?
Ideally, your colon. But first it has to get through your stomach acid, which is a little too good at its job. Great news for last night’s dinner. Bad news for your probiotic.
So Seed built DS-01®, the #1 Digestive Health Probiotic1, to survive the trip. Its ViaCap® technology is a capsule inside a capsule, which helps protect live probiotics through digestion so they reach the colon, where they actually support your gut microbiome.
And it shows. In a clinical trial, nearly 80% of participants reported minimal discomfort from constipation, alongside significant improvements in bloating and gas2. (We didn’t expect to be typing “constipation” this early either.)
SPECIALTY CORNER
🎟️ Netflix is finally showing its receipts…

Álvaro Lafuente Calvo in ‘La Bola Negra’ (Netflix)
Netflix's big Oscar swing, the Spanish historical drama 'La Bola Negra,' opened in four theaters this weekend. Normally that's where the story ends, because Netflix doesn't say what its movies make. This time the company shared the grosses. That’s a first, and ends a decade of quiet awards-qualifying runs where the numbers stayed a mystery. It also puts the streamer on the same weekend chart as everyone else. Here's the rundown:
$277,500 from four screens in New York and LA, a $69,375 per-screen average and the second-best ever for a non-English film
51% of opening-weekend ticket buyers were under 35, with 25- to 34-year-olds the biggest group
Netflix plans to expand to as many as 300 theaters over the next few weeks, and it hits the service Dec. 2, so nearly seven weeks in theaters
And more is on the way. Netflix's next big swings from David Fincher, Greta Gerwig, Taika Waititi, Peter Berg, and Danny Boyle will each get a real theatrical run, anywhere from a few weeks to nearly two months, before they hit the service.
This is the theatrical piece of a much bigger reset. If you missed Friday's issue, the short version is Netflix cut about 1,000 jobs last week, Bela Bajaria is out as content chief (reportedly blindsided), and Peter Rice is taking over. His first big call is likely the film job, where Dan Lin reportedly doesn't fit the new model. The names everyone keeps mentioning are Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, who ran WB's hot streak last year ('Sinners,' 'Weapons') and got pushed out two weeks ago in Paramount's takeover. They're reportedly already talking to Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos, telling him the directors they'd bring won't come without real windows and real marketing money.
Looking ahead… the theatrical shift and the shakeup have everyone speculating about Netflix's next move. Earnings are tomorrow, and Wall Street's expecting a soft quarter. US subscriber growth is flattening and the stock's down about 25% this year, so the read on the Street is that box office is starting to look like a revenue stream worth having, on top of the talent goodwill and marketing lift that come with it.

🏗️ Sound stages are becoming data centers…

Shadowbox’s nine existing stages in Atlanta. (source: Shadowbox Studios)
Shadowbox Studios, the Atlanta lot that lists Marvel's 'Loki' and 'Cocaine Bear' among its credits, was supposed to build a sprawling new complex of sound stages in DeKalb County, just outside of Atlanta. It's now fighting to put a data center of up to 651 megawatts there instead (that's the power draw of roughly half a million homes, or one very committed Clark Griswold). Unsurprisingly, the county is not thrilled.
It's been over a year of back and forth: a county moratorium, a lawsuit, a lost zoning appeal, a proposed size cap that lands just under Shadowbox's plan, and residents who were promised 2,000+ permanent jobs from the stages and are now being offered just 275 jobs from the data center.
Why bail on stages? Because the boom they were built for is over. Back in 2022, with streamers greenlighting everything, Atlanta couldn't build stages fast enough (inventory nearly doubled between 2020 and 2026). That's when private equity giant Silver Lake put $500M into Shadowbox's expansion, betting the content boom would keep going. It didn't.
Georgia production spend hit a 10-year low this year, less than half the 2022 peak, and Marvel, after a decade of shooting in Georgia, moved its tentpoles to the UK, where it's cheaper to shoot. Some studios are now renting out empty stages for pickleball, concerts, and bat mitzvahs. Silver Lake, meanwhile, wants a return, and a data center is the fastest way to get one. And they’ve got company:
Athena Studios in Athens, GA wants to turn nearly its whole campus into a data center.
Pinewood's UK expansion is now mostly data center, with a few stages on the side.
Wycombe Film Studios, a planned eight-stage complex outside London, is becoming a data center most of it was ever built.
Tyler Perry saw it coming. He shelved an $800M, 12-stage expansion back in 2024 after one look at Sora, OpenAI's text-to-video tool.
The bigger picture: the money that built the content boom is being rerouted to the AI boom. Same land, same investors, very different business.
